The Tour de France has inspired some great artwork because its imagery is so rich and varied.
Cycle Sport is asking artists and creative individuals to use their imagination to capture an aspect of the great race on a postcard and send them to us. Digital designs can also be submitted.
What are we after?
It’s simple. We want your Tour de France-inspired designs on a blank postcard. You paint, sketch, draw, collage or use any technique you can think of. Let your imagination run riot.
You might take your inspiration from the Tour’s past or present, its star riders or geography. In fact, as long as the Tour is the source of your inspiration, anything goes. You could send in just one, or if you are inspired by the daily drama of the race, two or more. The sooner you start, the better.
The closing date for designs is Tuesday, July 24.
We’ll publish all the designs online at the end of the Tour.
Here, for your inspiration, is a set of watercolour sketches commissioned for the Tour de France in 2010 by Cycle Sport’s artist-in-residence Simon Scarsbrook. These ran in the September 2010 edition of the magazine.
Your artwork must be original.
Standard postcard size is 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm).
If you are applying electronically, please send your postcard design as a jpeg at a resolution of 300 dpi.
Send your postcard to: Cycle Sport Tour Art, Cycle Sport Magazine, IPC Media, Leon House, High Street, Croydon CR9 1HZ
Or email your design to: firstname.lastname@example.org with the header Cycle Sport Tour Art
The copyright for your design will remain yours. However, we reserve the right to use your image in the magazine, on the website or in other publications.
